A special Brief Encounter session as this kid is my nephew. Sadly he only let me take half a roll of 135, so it wasn’t much of a session, but out of those 14 frames I found that all of them were usable. I hope to release a bunch more soon.
Adding to my Brief Encounters series, this time I’ve been working with someone whom I met on the way back from University one day. a lot of time has passed since that day but I have always known I’d work with her and now, finally, we have. We’re also planning some bigger projects already in the pre production pipeline so lookout for a bunch of new work soon.

A few months ago I went back in the studio briefly working with a number of people who were in the area while I set up different lighting set ups. The plan was simply to try a few ideas with a single light source which would work for a forthcoming project. This is a portrait of one of the teaching fellows where I studied.

So the infrastructure is close to being laid for my new photographic workflow. New scanner as I’ve already mentioned and I finally bought the software after days of deliberation. I intend to have it ready just before I head to Barbados so when I return, hopefully with some material to scan; I can start scanning.
Also when I return I will get my teeth into the first video project I also mentioned before. Looking forward to getting some serious creative momentum going post trip. Keep a lookout for new material on the horizon. Unless of course, this period of not taking any pictures has meant I’ve lost any vision I had.
Many people ask me about my post production workflow or more importantly why I choose the images I do. The best way I’ve found to explain this decision process is using a wonderfully illustrative website; http://color.hailpixel.com/ once you’ve click through, hover your mouse across the screen, there you will find all the colours in our visible spectrum and this is my first deliberation when choosing images. I look at relationships between colours, the overall colour palette the impact of images next to each other tonally and how they may create strong associations that help in evoking a strong sense of time and place.
